Oerlikon one – a Tower with History
Who in Zurich doesn’t know it, the former Swissôtel right next to Oerlikon train station? The once tallest building in the city, opened in 1972 as Hotel International, will reopen in 2025 with a new concept.
Gruber & Ianeselli developed the naming and the website oerlikon.one for the building and residential offerings, whose design reflects the minimalist forms of brutalism. The building name “Oerlikon One” honors the formative role of the construction in the urbanization of Oerlikon, its architectural significance as a monument of Béton brut, and its 50-year history as the first tower in the 11th district. The lower part of the high-rise offers gastronomy and retail spaces as well as the first Mama Shelter Hotel in Switzerland. On the upper floors, from the 13th to the 24th floor, 124 premium apartments are being created – Oerlikon One Living.
In collaboration with the signage agency Neuzeichen from Lenzburg, Gruber & Ianeselli adapted the signage concept for the marketing measures surrounding Oerlikon One Living. The website with interactive apartment navigator by Beyonity from Bern was developed by Streamnow from Zurich. The content was developed together with Smeyers Immobilien Zürich, who are also responsible for marketing the residential offerings.
